International Flood Risk Management Symposium: BrisbanE, AustraliaMonday 3 and Tuesday 4 September 2012
|
Background to the symposiumFollowing the widespread flooding in Australia 2010/11 (and the subsequent Commission of Inquiry) a significant focus has been placed on how to do things differently; taking a longer term evidenced based approach. There has been considerable exchange between Australian and the UK and international experts in recent years and these activities have highlighted the potential benefits for supporting the transfer of lessons and techniques from the UK Foresight Future Flooding programme (sponsored by the Government Office for Science) and the exchange of latest science from the UK Flood Risk Management Research Consortium (FRMRC) and related Australian programmes. Discussions with the Netherlands Water Partnership have also highlighted possible lessons to be learnt.
