CLIMATE RISK ANALYSIS FOR ENERGY EFFICIENT INFRASTRUCTURE IN GREATER KUALA LUMPUR
Carbon Trust is working with local governments in greater Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to develop a buildings energy inventory and develop a roadmap for leveraging existing initiatives to demonstrate the carbon reductions possible through improved infrastructure efficiency. Yet, low carbon and urban green growth initiatives may not be able to deliver desired benefits if climate risks to them are not considered and incorporated in planning.
Dr. Sarah Opitz-Stapleton and Ms. Maizura Ismail working with Sayers and Partners, are conducting a high-level climate risk assessment of infrastructure in greater KL to support Carbon Trust and municipal partners. The assessment includes identification of current and projected weather and climate-related hazards and potential, broad implications for KL’s buildings and energy systems. The analysis will then be used to identify ways of incorporating climate and non-climate risk drivers into low carbon strategies and urban design for the project roadmap with municipal stakeholders.
The overall project Establishment of a Low Carbon City and Green Growth Strategy for Greater Kuala Lumpur is supported through the South East Asia Prosperity Fund of the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
